Pinot Noir Celebré

1996
Only available at auctions - sold out, a library wine.

The 1996 Celebre is mouth-filling, full-bodied with ripe plum and dark cherry and cinnamon, and has a long finish. Yet, the cooler 1996 vintage shows less tannins than were found in previous vintages. We believe the style is closer to "pinot" in character while still remaining on the hefty end of the pinot scale.

Rory Olson, owner of Portland Wine Merchants, was quick to give the 1996 Celebre praise in his August newsletter, including the following:

"About as pure a tasting Pinot one will experience. The fruit is so beautifully focused with a nice array of flavors - black cherry, expresso, black plums, dark chocolate, oriental spice, and a whiff of vanilla from the employment of new French oak! Very full-bodied, with a cascade of fruit that hits your palate wave after wave! Super texture and a wine that from start to finish gives you great palate presence. Amazing pinot!"
1995

Vintage & Harvest:

Stag Hollow 1995 pinot noir grapes were harvested before the heavy October rains that troubled this vintage. Ripe clusters were harvested over a two week period. Flavors were sweet, concentrated, with good complex spice nuance in the skins. Yield 1.75 tons/acre.

Wine:

Color extraction was very dark, exceptional for the 1995 vintage.

Slightly rugged, Celebre displays a dense mouth-feel, dried cherry flavor, youthful tannins, spice, oak, and a long expansive finish of vanilla and toast
1994
Only available at auctions - sold out, a library wine.

Vintage:

Stag Hollow 1994 pinot noir grapes were very small, pea-sized berries, the result of coulure climatique, young vines, and water stress. Cluster development was varied. Ripe clusters were harvested over a two week period. Flavors were very sweet, concentrated, with good spice nuance in the skins. Yield only 2 ton/acre.

Wine:

Color extraction was exceptional, perhaps as dark as a pinot can get. The wine displays intense, ripe berry flavors, youthful tannins, spice, oak, and a long expansive finish. Even though the grapes were especially ripe, the wine has a good natural acid balance and is expected to age well.
